The SK10 postcode includes many areas in and around Macclesfield including Adlington, Bollington, Bollington Central, Bollington East, Bollington West, Broken Cross, Chelford, Cheshire, Disley & Lyme Handley, Henbury, Hurdsfield, Kerridge, Macclesfield, Macclesfield Bollinbrook, Macclesfield Broken Cross, Macclesfield Central, Macclesfield East, Macclesfield Hurdsfield, Macclesfield Tytherington, Macclesfield West, Mottram St Andrew, Nether Alderley, Newton, Over Alderley, Pott Shrigley, Prestbury, Rainow, Tytherington, Tytherington Business Park and Whiteley Green.

Macclesfield has a long history, starting with a mention in the Domesday Book from 1183. The Canal was constructed between 1826 and 1831, linking Macclesfield to Marple and Kidsgrove. In 1873 the railway station opened, linking the city to the rest of the country. Macclesfield railway station has services to Manchester, Piccadilly, Stoke and Euston, and can be found on Silk Road.

It is a market town in the county of Cheshire, and the average age is 41, slightly higher than the national average. Its residents are generally educated to high level, and this might be why it is one of the wealthiest parts of the UK. The local economy is mainly based on agriculture and dairy farming, although major companies also have offices there, such as Barclays.


One of the most desirable streets in SK10 is Bradford Lane, with the average house fetching a cool 1.6 million. The vast majority of homes on Bradford Lane are large and detached.

Shrigley Road is a residential street popular with young families, containing a diverse range of small and larger houses. There is a school on the same street, which suits families very well, and the average house price is around three hundred thousand pounds. Also having a school, Hurdsfield Road is also popular with families, with flats and terraced homes going for around one hundred and ten thousand.

Macclesfield has all the amenities you'd expect from an affluent city, including a cinema, a lively town centre, good selection of restaurants and its fair share of pubs. There is also the Macclesfield Majestic Theatre Group, and a leisure centre on Priory Lane including swimming pool and aerobic spaces. The Silk Museum on Park Lane tells the story of the silk industry in Macclesfield.

Sk10's most notable school is The King's School on Cumberland Street. It was founded in 1502 and follows the standard GCSE and A-Level curriculum, achieving one hundred per cent pass rate at A-Level, with seventy-six percent achieving an A or a B. The school was attended by Joy Division's Ian Curtis among others.
